Some of you may or may not have heard of the chocolate sauce lesson. It's a demonstration lesson about how just a little bit of sin can spread everywhere and only Jesus can help you wash it all away. It is really a great Sunday school or youth night lesson for all ages and helps them all to be a little more careful about the things that they let into their lives.
All you need for this lesson is a bottle of chocolate sauce/syrup! Give each student some syrup right in their hand without any other instructions (except to not eat it!). Once everyone has their chocolate I'm sure they'll all be giggling and having fun playing around with it in their hands.
Sin is such an easy thing to receive and can be so fun to play with. But the more you play with it, the more it spreads. It starts to get into every area of our lives. (You may have some students that kept their chocolate still so it wouldn't make a mess). Sometimes we put our hand out to sin and realize right away just how messy it is and how cautious we need to be keep it from getting everywhere, but it's still there. We still reached out for it, maybe without even realizing what we were reaching ourselves out to. It's definitely harder to try and keep it from spreading than it is to just let it spread. We have to work at it to keep it from making a mess, if we stop to relax then it will be everywhere. Now ask your students to clean off the chocolate without leaving their seats. Right away most of them, if not all, will likely lick their hands clean. When they're done ask them if they think their hand is really clean. The sauce is gone, they did lick it all off after-all. But are they willing to shake each others hands? I'm sure the girls definitely won't want to shake the boys' hands. Now you can have them go to a sink and wash their hands. We can't fully wash away our own sins. We can't just stay where we are and expect the sin to eventually just go away. We need to go to Jesus and let him wash the sin away for us. We can try and wipe it clean our selves and make it appear to be gone, but it will never truly be clean, the guilt will still be there unless we confess our sin to Jesus and let Him clean us. Question: What is a very small way we may let sin in? Are we careful about the movies we watch and music we listen to? Are we careful about the people we hang out with and the places we hang out at? Sin creeps in very slowly. It starts with a very small amount and slowly builds up. You may have your hand out for sin right now, not realizing how messy it is going to be. Let's ask God right now to help us keep our hands away from sin and to open our eyes to the hidden sins in this world before we get it everywhere. Remember, the Devil was an angel. He is beautiful. We don't want to sin because it's ugly looking. The Devil will make sin look beautiful to us, he will make it look exciting and you won't see the ugly side of it until it's to late. But God is always ready to forgive, so if you feel like the devil has already tricked you into trying sin, remember that God is ready to forgive and help us turn away from it if we just ask Him. <Previous Join Our Email List!Signup for news and special offers! I love object lessons like this. They really stick in the memory and help you to understand the concept, especially for kids but also for adults!
