Looking for something fun and exciting to do with your youth to get them excited about going to church? It's good for the youth to have time to fellowship and bond with one another and have good clean fun. Young christians need to have fun together while building lifelong friendships in a place without all the temptations of sin. Monthly or even weekly "fun nights/days" are a great way to keep them coming back for more. Even if you have youth coming to these fun events that don't come to regular services you are still helping them to have good clean fun and gain trust with you and others christians. It just may be what gets them curious about coming to a church service. Here's a few ideas to do with all ages of youth!

Lock-in Lock-ins are for the brave youth leaders only! Okay, that might be slightly dramatic. Slightly. Seriously though, the kids have a blast at these! It's more of a once a year thing like on New Years Eve, Halloween (better than them finding a haunted house to stay at), or just a random night that works for everyone's calendars. You can choose to start whenever. If parents are just dropping kids off then maybe wait till 7 or 8p.m to start. But we have made it into a family night where the families come at 6 and stay and we all have pizza and have multiple board games going. On New Years the families might stay till midnight and then leave but otherwise they start leaving after 9 or 10. This is when the youth leaders must be brave as they face an all night-er with the youth! How many volunteers will just depend on your youth size. We make it more of a youth age 12 and up thing. You might want a volunteer in charge of the snack supply so them kids don't eat everything before the night even gets started. Your activities will depend on your church size. A lock in means after a set time (usually 9 or 10 p.m) the outside is off limits. So it really comes in handy when you have a gymnasium but we've done it without one before. Sometimes it's best to let the youth just play and visit at the start of the night before you start any planned activities, after all you will have all night so need to get in a hurry. Hide and seek in the dark is a top activity that they love! You could also plan a scavenger hunt to set up before they get there or a "treasure" hunt where they have to solve riddles to find the next clue till it leads to the treasure which could be can be a box full of snacks for the evening. It gets crazy and no matter how much hope you have that they will decide to go to sleep, there will still be some that will make it all night! That being said, be sure that you have two rooms set up for sleeping. Boys in one room, girls in the other, and both rooms are off limits to the other from that start so they can go to bed if they decided they're done and make sure the rooms entrances are in a leaders view at all times.
Color wars!
A color war is an exciting summer activity! There are a few ways to do one. One way is with a chalk powder. Amazon has a few packs to get you set up! You can use squeeze bottles or throw chalk balls! It is all washable, just make sure you have safety glasses! Perfect for all ages and so much fun!
Carnival Day Fundraiser
Carnivals are not just for the youth, the whole church and community gets to be involved! Have your youth split up in teams of two or more to come up with a carnival type booth and give them a deadline to let you know what kind of booth they will be doing and what kind of supplies they will need. They can set up booths for games with prizes or stands with carnival type food! It is so much fun and it helps the youth to learn to work together and to put forth an effort to be a part of the church not just showing up for the fun stuff and leaving all the work to the youth leaders.
Youth need to have a safe place to hang out and just have fun sometimes. A place where they don't have to worry about being tempted by sin. A place where they can just be a kid and be surrounded by people that want to see them succeed and want to be sure that they make heaven their top priority. Don't get aggravated by the kids that only come to the fun stuff but not the services, at least they're somewhere safe and are meeting christian friends. Sneak in a five minute lesson, it may be all they need to spark there interest.
Ice cream night, fiesta taco night, black light events, trips to a fun center, there are so many things you could do to! Maybe make a point system in class and when they reach the goal they get to plan a fun night party their selves! With your approval of course. Give points for memory verses, bringing a friend, answering questions about the lesson. It's amazing how excited they get about doing these things and working together to earn the party Give the youth some fun and exciting memories but be careful not to cut out all the serious stuff. There is a time for playing crazy games and there is a time to be serious. Some churches get caught up in trying to please the youth that they spoil them and forget to teach them that life is not all fun and games all the time and when the Devil comes at them hard they don't know how to resist him. I pray now that every youth that comes through your church doors gets a strong desire to serve God and to further His kingdom. I pray that they will always have the strength to resist the temptations of this world and that they will always remember that even when they fall, God is willing to forgive. Amen.
