Needing a Sunday school lesson about thankfulness? I'll do my best to give you something you can use this Thanksgiving season. Of course we should be thankful in every season. Hopefully this post can be of help for your Thanksgiving lesson. The goal is to help our youth to realize all the wonderful things God has done for us and that no matter how hard life may seem, God is always giving us something to be thankful for. Here are 5 verse about thankfulness.
"In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you"
1 Thessalonians 5:18. This verse tells us to be thankful in everything! This means that even when things don't go the way we plan, we should still be thankful that God is doing what He knows is best. We may not know why things happen the way they do but we must always trust Him. Have you ever been running late going somewhere? Maybe the alarm didn't go off, or the dog hid your shoes and now your running 10 minutes behind. Your stressed out about it and wondering why your having such bad luck today, but maybe God was slowing you down to protect you from danger. Maybe if you had left on time today then you would have been in the path of a crazy driver and been in a car accident. You'll never know all the things God has protected you from but you should always thank Him for watching out for us even when we are unaware of the danger He has kept us from.
"O give thanks unto the Lord, for He is good: for His mercy endureth for ever."
Psalms 107:1 Isn't it wonderful to know that we have a heavenly father who will always love us? He is always watching us and protecting us. No matter what we do He still loves us. This doesn't mean that we can go around sinning all the time, it means that no matter what crime we commit, Jesus is still willing to forgive us if we simply ask for His forgiveness with a sincere heart. His love is never ending! Be thankful for His unending love and don't take it for granted.
"I will praise thee: for thou hast heard me, and art become my salvation"
Psalms 118:21 The most important thing to be thankful for is His gift of salvation! Through Christ we can be saved. As long as we ask Jesus into our hearts and do our best daily to live for Him, we will live forever in Heaven! So thankful that He hears our prayers for salvation! Some people have been so far from God living deep in sin that they believed God would never forgive or even hear them, but He will. He hears the sinners prayers. He is always ready to listen and to forgive a sincere prayer. I am so thankful that He will always hear the sinners prayers.
"Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving"
Colossians 4:2 A thankful heart is a happy heart. You may pray for one thing but God has another plan. When we pray with a thankful heart we are asking God to help us with our problem while being thankful because we know He will do whatever is best, even if we don't understand His ways. Continually pray for your need, and watch how He helps your need while being thankful that He is in control. So rather than stressing about why things aren't going the way you asked, have faith and be thankful that He is moving in your situation to do what He knows is best.
"Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights." James 1:17a
God has literally given us the world. He made this beautiful place we live in. Every flower, star, and sunset is only a piece of God's creation that He made for us. He changes the colors of the leaves in the fall and covers the ground in beautiful white snow in the winter. He taught the birds to sing and created magnificent mountains. There are so many wonderful and beautiful things around us that we should thank God daily for. He gives us food and supplies our every need. He gives us strength when we need it and comfort when we feel hurt. He is always ready to hear our troubles or our joys! He is our rock and our constant hope. Be sure to thank Him often and let Him know that we we do appreciate all He is doing and will do for us.
